Rewards from Building Your Own House

January 30, 2018

This past November I completed my latest project. I began my building a new house in May and completed it in November, six months is typical for a build especially if your trades people have other contracts on the go. I did very little hands on work, some painting and a bit of shovelling and that was it. My personal time “working” on the house itself was probably about 2 weeks although I remained active organizing constantly. I follow “The Blueprint”, using all the steps for building a house and use the house plans I include with “The Blueprint”. I recently had my new house appraised and having paid all of my sub-trades and materials the profit on this new build will be in the area of $125 000, a nice sum for the time invested.

With January coming to an end it is a good to time to begin searching for the next parcel of land and do a little planning for the next build. I also use this time of year to complete some permit applications and shop around to see if I can find a better supplier or new sub-trade. While I’m content with the people I use now it doesn’t hurt to see if there’s a way to save more money and increase profits. Of course this is also a great time to travel south and enjoy the free time, profits made and a bit of sun and surf!
